The Las Vegas Optic in Las Vegas, New Mexico, has an opening for a Receptionist/Classified & Legal Sales Representative. This position handles the daily front office phone and walk-in business for the newspaper and sells Personal, Classified and Legal Advertising to customers to satisfy their advertising needs. The Las Vegas Optic is a mail delivered 3,550 circulation tri-weekly newspaper publishing on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Las Vegas is located approximately 65 miles east of Santa Fe and at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range in the southern Rockies. Newspaper or other media advertising sales experience preferred
College degree preferred
Strong customer service experience preferred
Good practical learning skills
Ability to work under considerable amount of pressure meeting deadlines
Strong listening, written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated computer proficiency. MSExcel a must.
Self-motivated with good organizational skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
Essential Functions:
Greet customers entering the building in a polite and pleasant way while providing excellent customer service with good satisfaction
Answer the phone and direct calls
Take and distribute messages for employees
Accurately process customer payments
Drive routes to monitor newspaper racks
Listen to customer's needs and advise them on the correct form of advertising
Handle inside sales for customers who walk in or call in wanting to place a Personal, Classified or Legal Ad
Accurately process Personal, Classified and Legal Advertising to be sure it appears in a timely manner
Maintain and service existing Classified and Legal advertising accounts
Maintain knowledge of advertising rates, circulation and competing media for print and online product
Assist customers with basic ad layout and design
Maintain neat and organized records for Personal, Classified and Legal Advertising
Cross train in other areas of the business office for back-up purposes
Work Schedule: MondayFriday, 40 hours per week.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
